Jubei-chan accidental rewatch

Tuesday, October 31st, 2017

Crunchyroll posted Jubei-chan and I thought to give it a go, to complement J2. Completed it, went to blog, and… I have already watched it. But I had absolutely no recollection. Dementia is no joke.

This time around, I didn’t see much angst in Jubei-chan. People do what they have to do, it’s all very nice. Mikage is love as usual. The way Jubei-chan was nanohaing everyone was okay too, well played.

Daisuki is dead

Sunday, October 29th, 2017

So much for the power of the incumbent that was supposed to crush independent streaming licensees like Crunchyroll. I think the last thing I watched there was One Punch Man. They managed to annoy me quite a bit by posting attractive, but premium-only shows in the last few months. But we know now that it was an act of desperation.

When BOST went belly up, it was more or less expected. Getting content was difficult for them, the studios looked at them with suspicion. But DAISUKI was supposed to be different. The studios themselves banged together to create it. But something went wrong anyway.

Interestingly, in the same final months, I sometimes saw their banner in Crunchy’s streams. I cannot quite understand what was the point to have the rights, but then give them up to Crunchy instead of showing the series themselves.

Now if only Anime Strike died too. I hate their technology and their exclusives.

UPDATE: Omo thinks that Crunchy is incumbent, because it was there before DAISUKI. And then everyone is trembling in fear of real money coming in from Netflix and Amazon. Anime is cheap, he says.

Anison is what now?

Saturday, October 28th, 2017

You know that discussion, if RWBY is anime, right? I think it’s not, but… Here’s more of the same. I was watching A.I.Channel today and our virtual youtuber is singing songs from “Anison Karaoke Rankings”. I guess karaoke boxes compile the numbers of requests? And the No.5 is Supercell’s “Kimi no Shiranai Monogatari”. I have that track bought at Amazon, DRM-free. But wait, what? What anime was it in again? I even went to Wiki to verify. It’s not actually in any anime! Why is it “anison” again? Anison is a genre now?! Wiki has a special classification for it: “J-POP(アニメソング)”. Good grief.

UPDATE: A reader informed me that Kimi no Shiranai Monogatari is actually an ED for Bakemonogatari. So all is right with world.
