Secret Santa 2017

Monday, December 25th, 2017

The dashboard is at Reverse Thieves for 2017. I admit to being slightly relieved that nobody invited me, because the selection mostly consisted of either series that I watched and blogged and or those that I really do not want to watch, let alone blog. The only one that I might be interested in was Alice to Zoroku. I kind of want something of that vein, which is not as annoying as Mitchiko and Hatchin or Kurenai.

SDS’s review of Shingu was not particularly impressive. It is, IMHO, the greatest series that Tatsuo Sato ever helmed, and a masterpiece that he could never exceed afterwards (ever seen Stellvia?). SDS isn’t doing it justice. If you read his review, but haven’t seen the series, would his post persuade you not to rest until you watched all of it? But I don’t think my own blogging of it was all that either. Jeff Lawson’s was, IIRC, but it’s all lost now.

Bobduh on NetoJuu

His usual pointer to ANN contained this summary:

The show was one of the most engaging romances I’ve seen in a while, and in general just a very welcome ray of sunshine in a largely miserable real-world year. It told a tightly written romance well, offered plenty of alternately goofy and sharp reflections on anxiety and adulthood, and pretty much made the absolute most of its ten-episode run. Always nice to see such an altogether accomplished and positive production.

Marina on Boruto

Monday, December 18th, 2017

In a comment elsewhere, Marina of B&B sums it up thus:

I, too, am surprised at how much I’ve been enjoying Boruto. I never watched Naruto, never even wanted to since the length of the series intimidates me. Boruto is my chance to jump into the world, though I’m worried about how long it will eventually run.

This alone is a reason enough for Boruto to exist.

Also, I can sympathize with the point about the length. The orininal Naruto was the longest series I ever watched, as I lasted for 146 episodes. Never again.

NetoJuu ends

That was outstanding, but why is it so short? It’s not only that 10 episodes for a cour is unusual, but pieces were clearly trimmed mid-production. The ED shows us the RL persona of what seems to be Niko, visiting someone (probably Moriko), but she is not present in the anime. Last time I saw something this obvious, it was Shingu.

Although Mori-mori carries the show, the dude gets full marks for going through with things that had to be done. The Chad friend was great, too.

Liked: Heck yea
Rewatch: Quite possible

P.S. Jason understands, proclaims the show “utterly charming”.

UPDATE: Upon an e-mail tip by Avatar, I looked at the PV for the OVA. Good grief.
