Kimi no Todoke 10 and revenge of the causative

Saturday, December 12th, 2009

Now that I learned to pick them up, I hear them all the time. For example, Kurumi says “おどろかせちゃった”, or “made you startled” – odoro-ka (neg.base) + se (because odoroku is an -u type), and the shortening of shimau, I think. Indeed it’s more common than passive.

BTW, Kurumi is starting to lose her cool. She knows that she’s screwed.

Moero Amazon on Kimi ni Todoke 12

I can never figure out how Aira decides what to blog. This time after ignoring the shoujo tour de force for the whole season, a longish post. Unfortunately, I cannot simply read it, I have to translate first, and I’m busy right now, so I don’t know yet if it has any interesting insights. Nonethless, curious.

Lelangir on Kimi ni Todoke

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

The tide of animeblogging revival sweeps the land. Now it’s Lelangir, with an abandonment notice for Kimi ni Todoke. The fact itself is not that surprising, I suspended it after ep.10, but the reasons are unconventional, to say the least (also, poorly expressed: the Kazehaya graf seems to tag him as a “blank” self-insert, then Ryu graf says “again, not a self-insert” — so, is Kazehaya?).

-Hirano is barftastic; yeah, I just can’t stand that voice.

Aren’t we supposed to hate the work of Miss Noto in this show? Unconventional!

Before anyone asks, no, I do not announce abandonment: KnT is a terrific show. Just things happen, you know. But if anything, the real reason for suspension is how they dealt with the hapless Kurumi, who is there to join the Ami club (where she joins Arresta).

KnT LA announced

Wednesday, January 6th, 2010

According to ANN (via John — surprisingly, I don’t follow ANN):

The February issue of Shueisha’s Bessatsu Margaret magazine is announcing next Wednesday that a live-action film adaptation of Karuho Shiina’s Kimi ni Todoke [award-winning] manga has been green-lit.

It’s a good news, if they do a good job, of course. The source seems to be promising. But a live action of an unfinished manga? Someone is desperate for revenue, methinks.

BTW, the anime was praised for bringing authentic shoujo aesthetics to anime media. This is hardly possibly for LA.

All is fair in love for Kabitzin

Sea Slugs:

As bad as things went for Ume [Kurumi[zawa]], however, I like the effort she put in. It drives me nuts to see passive characters like Sawako and Shota who never do anything about their feelings. When you’ve got a crush, you need to annihilate and destroy everyone in your way; that’s why they call it a “crush.”

Hah!

Unfortunately, Ume was simply no match for Ayane or any of the oblivious characters in the show.

Like I said, she should have put out first. Anyhow, the question is, what now?

Kanzeon on KnT 17

Saturday, February 6th, 2010

The post at Metanorn uses animated GIFs to a great effect, and really makes me think if basic blogging about animated media is too limited in its ability to expose the anime itself. BTW, the best way to read the post is to leech it through a newsreader: the site is too overloaded with distracting garbage.

Kabitzin on Kimi ni Todoke 21

Sunday, March 7th, 2010

I quietly gave up on Sawako and Co after ep.10, but I follow the spoilers at Sea Slugs (currently at ep.21), which seems better than the real thing:

Chizuru might not have that fierce magnetism that Tohru is looking for, but she still managed to scam FOUR whole episodes near the end of the series away from the main couple. This is what happens when you waffle, Shota!

Pixy on Kimi ni Todoke at 22

Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010

The master of Meenuvia finds a time to watch, and sometimes blog anime (sadly, his peer at AB, Maestro, gave up on anime blogging entirely). This time it’s a hyperbole that I am having trouble believing was written:

Kimi ni Todoke. continues as the heir apparent to Gurren Lagann in terms of pure awesome []

I don’t know, was I ever so excited? And at ep.22+, too!

Omni’s Last Hurray: the end of Kimi ni Todoke

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

Awww, I completely forgot that it’s based on a running manga too! No wonder the ending was rather anticlimactic. Still, remember the original Nodame?

Also! Few people (e.g. Zyl) fingered Aroduc as heir apparent to Omni. But did they even notice that Aroduc did not blog Kimi ni Todoke, one of the best shows of the season? Will all due respect, he (a) has specific interests, (b) works alone (*). The truth is, we do not have a ready replacement for Omni. THAT may take some of the slack, Psgels helps a bit too. But nothing quite so single-minded, concentrated, and consistent.

UPDATE: Aroduc addressed the issue thus:

I know there’s a lot of fuss over Omni retiring lately, but life for theblog-o-muck will go on regardless. I’ll take entertaining myself however I damn well please over being informative or careful not to annoy the rabid fandoms any day of the week. Mocking things is so very very much more fun, and if this ever stops being fun, I’m done with it.

(*) Sage did a small stint as Aroduc’s co-blogger, but was unreliable and otherwise not a success.

Yumeka on Kimi ni Todoke

Friday, April 2nd, 2010

Anime Yume:

I wouldn’t say [Kimi ni Todoke is] unique by any stretch, just a good series for its genre…

Not unique? Great, name another one then.
