SDB on Twintails

Friday, October 10th, 2014

Looks like Ore Twintail ni Narimasu 01 was pretty good. And:

This director also did OreImo, which I didn’t watch (Eeew!) but a lot of people liked. It was popular enough to get a sequel.

Siscon is too much for me. I don’t usually like switch hitters, either, but I think I can tolerate this one because I think they aren’t going to dwell on it.

That’s the crux of matter, isn’t it? Still, Kampfer was quite good until they peed the story down their legs (well, the LN author did). I’m not going to do the same mistake and get invested into watching Twintails in-season, but godspeed.

UPDATE: I think Pony Canyon ought to strike a deal with Crypton about a guest appearance of the most famous Twintails of them all.

UPDATE: ANN says “Sumire Uesaka as Tail Red”. Why not Tail Red Star? :disappointed_asian_father.jpg:

I’m not joking: it’s even spelled 春日歩. There’s a blog. I wish it were possible to know the history of this. Most likely it’s someone’s pen name.

Twintails 04

Everyone else have seen 05, but being a slave of FUNi’s legal not-quite-simulcast I haven’t. Anyhow, here’s one small thought, since it’s becoming clear that different attributes exist, with Twintails being the most powerful. Did anyone notice that Twirl surrendered her old primary attribute… but she still has one remaining. It may not be as good as Twintails, but surely it’s workable. Could it come into play later?

M. LaMoe on the death of literature

Monday, December 8th, 2014

According to post at Anime Diet, “light novels are the culprit that killed the Japanese traditional literature or “pure literature” as they call it” (he agrees with the statements of Owlguildy to that effect). Personally, I think Murakami killed literature better, but sure. At least he’s not blaming videogames!

P.S. Note that the high-vs-low literature split is distinct from the paper-vs-electronic split. Such as:

While I have always had a fondness for books, it would be a lie to claim that I read anywhere near as much now as I did many years ago. With my job and influx of other hobbies, I just don’t make the time anymore to sit down with a book and lose myself. Instead, time is filled with work, and my commute is usually spent watching anime or catching a quick nap before the destination. And yet whenever I see a new bookstore, my feet lead me through the doors. I can’t leave without picking up at least one new friend.

Owlguildy came to understand that a printed book may be worthless. But not everyone agrees. So we have a 2×2 value matrix:

End of 2014 Autumn

Quick dump of one completion and drop announcements for three bad series that I watched for the lack of other options.

Yama no Susume was the anime of season, although it started in Summer. Great iyashikei series, very nicely done. Not boring at all, far ahead of GochiUsa and Sketchbook. It’s not GA, however. The characters are too young. Liked: Yes, Rewatch: Possible.

Twintails is just dumb and embarrassing to watch. It’s supposed to be silly, fun, and not taking itself seriously. Bloggers gush how it “sends up tropes” and such. But in actual fact it’s nearly content-free and over-pandering (“nearly” thanks to 20 seconds of Owlguildy). Aika’s violence dealt upon Twirl is tiresome. Seen 10, dropped.

Amaburi starts strongly and 04 hits it out of the park, but then it sags with filler (in 1-cour series) and … whatever. Seen 6, dropped before the pirate episode.

Inou Battle is pretty, but that harem is at the level of Haganai. Seen 4.

BTW, started on the Librarian and Madan Ou and Tatsuo Sato Is Slipping, seen a few minutes of both, dropped before taking a screencap.

If not for Yama no Susume this season would’ve been a total loss. Haven’t had it so bad in years.
