The season of blogging tips

In meta.

I ran across another set of tips today, which apparently is the only entry into a contest Kabitzin was running. In the entry, Josh is talking up the old dogma of periodic posting:

I’ve gotten a lot better about that (as my now over 400 blog posts will attest to), but if you want people to come visit your blog every day, then you should have something new for them to look at every day, if possible.

I used to think this way too when I started blogging in 2000, but now I start to wonder if it is still true. The reason is, the way people read blogs has changed dramatically with the advent of feeds. They do not visit blogs regularly, but ask their software to do it. When their Liferea or Google Reader detect a new posting, only then they visit the site. As a result, I have tons of sites which do not update regularly on my feed list, such as Hop Step Jump, Karmaburn, Check, and so on. Personally, I do not feel a pressure to post regularly.
