Weird Japanese airplane

An e-mail from reader Jeff Chuang regarding To Heart omake 6 made me look at a YouTube video of Drifters, which had the following still in it:

I always took for an article of faith that the only Japanese fighter with an inline engine was Ki-61. So what is that? Suppose Drifters made a mistake and used a picture of a Western airplane. Which one had a chin radiator that could rival Hawker Typhoon and a sliding bubble canopy looking stolen from a Spitfire? Weird.

UPDATE: Wonderduck says that it's a Spittie V. It sure looks like one. But what does it have to do with the Japanese Navy?
