Last Exile begins

In the beginning at least, I'm watching both Moribito and Last Exile for the plot. The difference is, Moribito features far better animation. Compare, for instance, the intricately rendered structure of vanship against the barely filled in loli.

But it's not only the 3D. Check out how the foreground objects contrast with the background:

GONZO, how we love to hate thee. They did not learn a darned thing about making anime since Vandread. Maybe even regressed. If I make kick the fallen a couple of times more, then Guild reminded me of Zoids, while podracing was stolen from Star Wars. And the retarded robot busted the steampunk ambience to bits.

Aside from the plot, which is, honestly, lukewarm, the main redeeming feature of this show is Lavi's facial contortions.

She's even animated well. We salute the few competent professionals among GONZO's staff who attempted to save the production by making something worth watching in it, if it's just a small part.

P.S. I would be remiss to mention that the initial episodes provided a few tantalizing glances of the chick in glasses about whom I read at Rob Kelk's famous fetish site.
