Juuden-chan begins

Naturally, Charger Girl Juuden-chan 01 is, upon watching, not quite what bloggers suggested. The Plug peeing herself, trumpeted by Aroduc as "golden showers", is only a miniature insert. It's actually a good thing, because it was not well animated and not well connected to Plug getting scared or excited, but like I said it's only a flash. The crotch shots are nowhere as annoying as in Strike Witches. Overall, a watcheable show.

[no image because gimp is dead in Rawhide this week]

Watcheable does not mean "excellent" though. The art is rather dubious, and not just around Sento's nose. Hakone's school sequence looks like something dug from a VHS tape of Saber Raiders and Star Sherrifs. Story-wise, I'm tired of the way studios ride dead parents (fortunately, it probably was nothing but the intro hook, but still). I have plenty of excuses to drop this.

Last season, I pretty much selected Arashi by default, because it was simulcasted on Crunchyroll, and then the opener drew me in. This time, although Juuden-chan is similarly available, I was attracted to the controversy first. There is no DTO for either, bad Crunchy, no cookie. As usual, their Flash player fails to show subtitles and I'm left to enjoy Juuden-chan raw.

QUICKIE: after 04 SDB says "This show is a trainwreck of colossal proportions. Cheap thrills notwithstanding, I'm not curious about any of the rest of it.", while Aroduc says "I continue to be very happy with how this show is developing its characters, and this time, Iono got to shine." Too bad they cannot continue giving amuzingly disparate marks to every episode, since Steven decided to quit.

UPDATE: In comment at the same place, J. Greely reports:

There is no nudity in the manga. Use of their electrical powers does not result in arousal or loss of bladder control. The only urine appears in one scene in volume 2, where Sento scares it out of an otaku who's trying to bother a 3D girl on the beach. Arrester does, however, get off explosively when Sento clobbers her with the bat after their contest, and buys her own bat to try to analyze the experience (hitting herself and Plug to no erotic effect). Lots of (mostly dry) pantsu. And Sento is not an orphan; the attempted suicide in the first chapter is his widower father.

So it's an unusual case where anime is eccified respectively to the story source. Curse you, The 501st Wing!
