2DT on K-ON and anime market

Some of the smarter bloggers reacted to the post at K-ON with a puzzlement: what was he trying to say? Deliver a lesson on basic supply and demand?

Perhaps so, but I read it as an attempt to point out that shows with dubious prospects can be propelled to success by paying masses of true fans. This comes in contrast with shows like Afro Samurai which sold 2 times better than Haruhi, thanks to the mass appeal of Samuel L. Jackson. K-ON does not even have a romance subplot. And yet, rallying behind it produced results.
