Damien Kellis on Summer Wars

In his entry at Moe Check, Damien is somewhat less forthcoming with the explanations than DM, but he, too, seem to be unhappy with sci-fi part:

Offhand, though, the phrases which stuck were "In the future of Summer Wars, there is no network lag", and "I don't think physics works that way".

More importantly:

Overall, I'd say this is a movie you should watch at least once (and if possible, watch it with a friend or several). Whether you should rewatch it is up to you; in fact, I leave it up to you whether to even like it. I've found that one of the most liberating revelations I have ever had in my life was the knowledge that just because it's well-acclaimed or hugely popular doesn't mean I have to like it: I am free to make up my own mind, based on my own narrow prejudices and experiences, and so is everyone else.

In other words, he didn't like it. {Correction: Actually, he did. Sorry.}

The suggestion to watch in a company may work well so it forces finishing. As I mentioned before, I would've definitely dropped Tokikake unfinished if not for the group. But finishing it did not make me like it more.

Since we're on topic, it occured to me that rejecting Summer Wars because Tokikake failed was fallacious on my part. It's like rejecting Haibane Renmei because Niea_7 was terribly bad and Lain was poor. Fortunately, I have enough excuses to ignore the well-meant the advocacy even knowing that we cannot infer from the failure of Tokikake.

For one thing, after seeing Nanoha I became generally disillusioned in anime, so Summer Wars, schummer wars, who cares? I was not following anything current for 2 seasons already.
