Honey and Clover II

As was rehashed a million times before, there's no "II" in Honey and Clover II, the story was artificially interrupted for some technical reason on the break of broadcast seasons. So, it makes no sense to watch the first half only. It's the kind of idiotic trick you'd expect from GONZO (see Druaga).

The show itself leaves a mixed impression. It's directed very well, and I can forgive it the indulgence into cinematographic tricks, such as extented musical pauses intended to be meaningful. But the content does not sit very well with me. In particular, in place of Floyd I would kill Kaoru the moment he talked about harming my children and grandchildren. The classic error of a dangerous villain is to reveal his plans in the moment of gloating. When faced with a crazy maniac hell-bent on revenge who has just demonstrated his power and capability, you deal with it. Floyd was a slowpoke and a weak sauce, but far from the only one in this anime.

The best thing about the H&C was the Japanese sleeper train. Gotta try one of those some time, maybe on a trip to Asahikawa.
